She turned to plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Rose for a breast augmentation that changed how she felt about her appearance
Leesaās body has been through a lot.
Not only has she birthed ā and breastfed ā three children, but sheās also seen her weight fluctuate a lot over the years. It was this combination of wear on her skin and her breasts in particular that led her to seek out a breast augmentation.
āIāve struggled with my weight my entire life. I was very big. I was very small. I was very big. I was very small,ā she tells PEOPLE exclusively. āI think nursing three children is what really killed me. I donāt mean to sound mean, but that was really what I think did me in. When I was pregnant, I had really, really large, enormous breasts. And then once I had my third, they just disappeared.ā

Leesa, 50, admits that the idea of a breast augmentation had always been a thought, considering many of her friends had had one done.
āIt was always something I flirted with but said I would never do,ā she shares. A big check in the ānoā column for her was the downtime. As a busy mom with a full-time job, being out of commission for a couple weeks just didnāt sound doable.
Then she found out about the PreservĆ© by Motiva technique thatās minimally invasive but would still deliver the results she was looking for. As a new-to-market innovation, not every plastic surgeon is doing this procedure, but Leesa tapped New Jersey-based surgeon Dr. Michael Rose for the job.
āSheās a working mom. Sheās got kids. She likes to work out. Sheās active. Women tend to put these things off, and I see this all the time,ā Dr. Rose tells PEOPLE of Leesaās backstory. āItās all about the family, and they come last. When she found out about PreservĆ©, she realized this is a way to kind of shoehorn this into my busy lifestyle because thatās what this technique allows.ā

As Dr. Rose explains, with this technique, surgery can be done in as little as 30 minutes with only two small incisions under each breast. Using Motivaās tools, the doctor creates a channel inside the breast, which opens a pocket for the Motiva SmoothSilk Ergonomix implants. There is no cutting of the muscle involved, and because there is less trauma to the body with this surgery, recovery tends to be much easier than a standard breast procedure.
Just like she wanted, Leesa was able to bounce back to her normal life pretty quickly after her procedure. While the medical recommendation is to still take it easy for a few days, patients can expect to do many of their usual activities as early as the next day.

āI showered the next morning. I washed my own hair,ā Leesa shares. āI volunteered at a fundraiser that Saturday. I got it done on Wednesday, and I was out running around selling raffle tickets. I had more downtime when I got my gall bladder out.ā
Dr. Rose adds that Leesa was āback at itā with her routine right away, as he expected.
On deciding what she wanted her breasts to look like, Leesa says she did not want ābig boobs,ā rather, she was looking to āreplace the volumeā that sheād lost with her weight fluctuations.
āI felt like I had two empty socks,ā she says. āI just wanted to fill them up, but I didnāt want to change my clothes size. So we went very small.ā

Once she was through the procedure, though, Leesa dealt with a normal amount of swelling that she said initially made her nervous but then made her almost wish sheād gone a bit bigger with the implants. Now fully healed, though, sheās content with her new appearance.
āWe should be screaming from the rooftops,ā she says of the PreservĆ© technique and implants. āI know so many people that want to do this, and theyāre afraid of downtime, surgery, anesthesia, pain. Itās just so simple; it was easier than wisdom teeth.ā
And her result is ānatural-lookingā breasts, which is exactly what she was after. They also now have āa natural droop.ā
āI did go back and forth a little bit just because Iām like, āOh, am I too old for this?āā she says of questioning her plastic surgery plans. āBut I thought, āWell, Iām 50. I hopefully have a few years left so I can enjoy this.ā I feel much better. I feel much more confident now.ā
