Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Euphoria season 3 finale, now streaming on HBO Max.
Euphoria came to an end on Sunday, May 31, with the season 3 finale, which also marked the end of the series
The final episode featured never-before-seen footage of the late Angus Cloud, who died in 2023 of an accidental overdose
"Angus didn’t make it in real life, so at least in the made-up world of Euphoria, he’s still alive," creator Sam Levinson said
The late Angus Cloud made a posthumous appearance in the Euphoria season 3 finale.
The episode, which aired on Sunday, May 31, and served as the series finale, featured never-before-seen footage of Cloud and Zendaya taken during season 1 production, creator Sam Levinson revealed.
Cloud, who played Fez in the show, died of an accidental overdose in 2023 at age 25. His character was kept alive in season 3, though, and was serving a 30-year sentence in prison after his home was raided in season 2.
In the finale, Rue (Zendaya) overdosed on laced painkillers given to her by Alamo Brown (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), and during a dreamlike sequence, she reunited with Fez.
“It's footage that never made it into the show,” Levinson told Esquire. “I thought, oh, it'd be great to use that footage and just see him again—and see the two of them.”

Levinson, 41, said the actor "deserved more time, a longer, fuller life," at a finale screening, per The Hollywood Reporter.
“Moments like these are rare. This season, we lost Angus. Many of you loved him the way I did," the creator said. "Angus didn’t make it in real life, so at least in the made-up world of Euphoria, he’s still alive."

Following the episode, Levinson shared more about his decision to have Rue die in the finale and also why he wanted to show Cloud onscreen one more time.
"It just felt like the honest ending. The honest ending is that people like Rue don't make it," he said in a behind-the-scenes breakdown segment. "People relapse. They f--- up. They're not ready to get clean. And they weren't dying like they are now, with the influx of fentanyl into this country."
"I can say with absolute certainty that if I was going through what I went through when I was younger now, I wouldn't be here either. There's no reason to sugarcoat it. I wanted to tell this story for Angus and for people who weren't granted a second chance."

Ahead of the season 3 premiere in April, Levinson told The New York Times that Cloud was originally "the backbone" of season 3.
"I used to even talk to him about it because I wanted him to stay clean. So I would invite him over, and I’d tell him what the plans were for the character. I’d say, look, he’s been in prison for a few years, so you’ve got to get that yoked prison body, because I wanted him to start working out and taking care of himself," Levinson said. "You know, season 1, he was supposed to die at the end, and I couldn’t do it."
Levinson wanted Cloud to "have something to hold onto, a tangible goal for the future," he told the outlet. "And then when I heard the news that he had passed away, I was very angry about it, and especially about fentanyl. Losing him made me sit down and think, what story do I really want to tell? What matters in life? And through the soul-searching of that, season 3 began to crystallize."
Euphoria is now streaming on HBO Max.
