It’s been one year since JoJo Siwa met boyfriend Chris Hughes in the Big Brother house, and she’s celebrating with a special surprise.
The pop star, 22, released the music video for her new single “Serendipity” on Tuesday, April 7, which stars Hughes, 33, her parents and an elaborate stage production.
In the video, Siwa performs a full-scale dance routine set to the song, and Hughes — who was not told in advance what he’d be seeing — watches with delight from the audience.
Siwa directed, choreographed and produced the video herself, and it featured five days of rehearsal, 86 dancers and 24 hidden cameras to capture Hughes’ reaction.

In the clip, Hughes, his friend and Siwa’s parents laugh and smile as the curtain drops and Siwa appears on stage. The Love Island alum can be seen singing along to the song before giving his girlfriend a standing ovation.
“That was unbelievable! We had no idea,” his friend says, while Hughes adds, “I still don’t know what’s going on” and blows Siwa a kiss.
In a statement, Siwa said she’d been “holding onto” “Serendipity” for some time, but was waiting for the right moment to share it with the world.
“It’s been one year since I walked into the Big Brother house in the UK, and so much of my life changed from that experience,” she said. “‘Serendipity’ became this word that made everything that’s happened in my life make sense! …how something so unexpected can turn into something so destined. A year later, it feels like the perfect way to capture how I look at life right now.”
Siwa and Hughes met on season 24 of Celebrity Big Brother UK, and their platonic friendship turned romantic shortly after they exited the house.

On Instagram, Hughes celebrated one year of knowing Siwa with a sweet Instagram post that included a clip of their first exchange on the show.
“one year ago today, I discovered your existence 🤍 the first thing I ever said to you was, ‘you’re very colourful’, and that colour still radiates every day!” he captioned his post. “it’s flown by, feels like yesterday I got out the bb house, crazy universe 🌎😌”
In a post of her own, Siwa wrote that she was “so forever grateful to the walls” of the Big Brother house.
“One year since walking into the Big Brother house, one year since my smile grew in a way I didn’t know possible,” she wrote. “Today, I’m reminded of the moment that quietly changed everything.🤍 The only word to explain what happened on this day a year ago… Serendipity🫶🏼”
In March, Siwa opened up to PEOPLE about the song “Serendipity,” explaining that it was her favorite word, which compelled her to write the tune.
“The inspiration behind that is my very sweet love Christopher. Well, our lives connecting and meeting are like serendipity,” she said. “I think that when it’s meant to be, it is, and when it’s meant to be, it’ll be right.”
She also teased some wedding plans to PEOPLE earlier this month after her brother Jayden’s nuptials, during which Hughes served as a groomsman.
“Obviously our relationship’s very new. We’re creeping up on our one-year anniversary. So we’re getting there, but we’ve got time,” she said. “And obviously, I think that marriage is, of course, in Chris’s hands, and so when he feels the time is right, I’ll be ready. Maybe. I’m just kidding.”
