Nick Jonas tells PEOPLE that he was given a very special Paul Rudd-themed gift for his 30th birthday, before the two met on the set of Power Ballad
“I have a signed poster in my home because one of our mutual friends, Jack McBrayer, arranged this for my birthday,” he says while revealing his favorite Paul Rudd film

Nick Jonas was a “big fan” of Paul Rudd long before they met on the set of Power Ballad.
While recalling the moment they first met on the set of the John Carney-directed film, Jonas, 33, tells PEOPLE that he remembers Rudd, 57, making the ultimate “movie star entrance” when he walked into their suite.
“I remember you just appeared out of the curtain, just arrived onto the scene,” he says in a joint interview with Rudd. “I was struck.”
Upon finally getting to spend some time together after having heard so much about each other from mutual friends, Jonas recalled the one thing he and Rudd bonded over on that first day of shooting.
“We talked about my favorite movie of yours, They Came Together,” he says to Rudd. “I have a signed poster in my home because one of our mutual friends, Jack McBrayer, arranged this for my birthday — I think it was my 30th birthday — to get you all to sign it. So thank you for that.”
The 2014 satirical romantic comedy stars Rudd and Amy Poehler as corporate enemies who navigate a chaotic enemies-to-lovers romance when Rudd's character threatens to shut down Poehler's quirky indie candy shop.

In thinking back to signing the poster, Rudd admits that he was “really touched” by the request at the time.

“That blew me away because Jack came to the set, he said, ‘This is for Nick's birthday,' ” he recalls. “I was like, ‘He knows this movie?' I was really touched by that.”
In their latest movie, Jonas and Rudd play a famous singer and a wedding band musician, respectively, who come into conflict after Jonas' character steals Rudd's idea for a song and turns it into a hit.

While Jonas may have been a fan of Rudd's first, the Marvel star previously told PEOPLE that he was very quickly “amazed at some of the stuff” his costar was doing in front of the cameras.
“I can't say that I was surprised because I've seen him act, but he did things that were kind of so subtle and really deft, the stuff that was going on behind his eyes,” Rudd said at the Power Ballad premiere. “He'd be going through these dilemmas, and he's not saying anything, but you can read his mind. It's such good acting.”
After the two were done filming, Rudd recalled being even more blown away by Jonas' performance when he finally got to see the film in its final state.
“When I saw the movie, it was like, ‘Oh my God.' There were scenes that I wasn't there to film, and yeah, he knocked me out,” he emphasized. “So, not much of a surprise, but I kept thinking, ‘Oh, I need to remember this.' And he's just cool. Like he just plays everything cool because he is cool."
