Stephen Colbert reacts to Trump's 'hare-brained' Iran War speech next to Easter Bunny

Stephen Colbert roasted Trump's rambling Easter Monday speech from the White House, in which he gave an Iran War update standing beside the Easter Bunny.

After Trump called the rescue of two airmen shot down over Iran "amazing," Colbert joked, "Yes, you rarely see a military operation announced next to the Easter Bunny."

Trump fired off an expletive-laced rant to this Truth Social platform on Easter Sunday, warning Iranian officials to "Open the F---IN' [Strait of Hormuz], you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell."

It was an eventful Easter weekend at the White House, which made for ample roasting material material over The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Donald Trump kicked Easter Sunday off with an expletive-laced rant on his Truth Social platform, in which he warned Iranian officials amid the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war on Iran to "Open the F---IN' [Strait of Hormuz], you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell." The following morning, the President delivered a rambling address from The White House beside First Lady Melania Trump and an actor inside a giant Easter Bunny costume.

Trump touched on the successful rescue of two crew members from an F-15 fighter jet shot down in Iran, egg prices, new White House fencing, and even the Melania movie during his address before the annual White House Easter Egg Roll.

"What about the rescue that took place yesterday. It's something that you rarely see," he said. In Stephen Colbert's monologue before Monday's Late Show, the longtime Trump critic joked, "Yes, you rarely see a military operation announced next to the Easter Bunny."

"The closest is when President Obama did this," Colbert continued, cutting to a clip of Obama announcing the killing of Osama Bin Laden on May 1, 2011, with the dancing Philadelphia Phillies' mascot, the Phillie Phanatic, edited into the background.

"I remember, I remember. Amazing night," Colbert joked, adding, "After the bunny left, Trump repeated his threats to Iran." A clip then played of Trump telling a reporter later that, under his command, the U.S. military is "obliterating that country," as jovial, jazzy music plays in the background.

Colbert busted out a red recorder and smashed out a jaunty tune when the clip cut back to Late Show H.Q., causing the audience to roar with laughter.

During Monday's White House address, Trump delivered a varied set of remarks regarding the war on Iran, which commenced on Feb. 28. "They are not too strong at all in my opinion," he said, ominously noting that "we are soon going to find out, aren't we."

In his Easter Sunday social media post, the President named Tuesday as "Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran," threatening a massive military offensive should Iran not concede to his demand to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to American traffic.

Per PBS, he told reporters on Monday that he used expletives "only to make my point." "I think you've heard it before," he added of his choice word.

"I must tell you I came out and I expected we were going to be talking about farmers," Trump continued from the White House balcony on Monday. "We were going to talk about so many different products, but you know what they want to talk about? Sir, this is about eggs. Eggs!"

The President cited concerns over inflation raising the price of eggs, but accurately noted, "within a short period of time, eggs came down. They came down 40 percent, 50 percent."

Then he turned his attention to his wife, standing beside him, "who's here someplace. Let's see. I think this is our First Lady. What do you think of our First Lady? She's a movie star. I don't know. Do we call her First Lady or a movie star? She has the biggest movie. Can you believe this?"

Melania recently starred in Brett Ratner's Melania documentary, which cost Amazon MGM Studios $75 million to produce and release, and earned just over $13 million by its second week in theaters.

The White House also released an official statement on Easter Sunday. "As Christians around the world rejoice in the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ, President Donald J. Trump stands as a fierce defender of the Christian faith," the statement read.

"From his first day back in office, President Trump has made protecting people of faith a cornerstone of his Administration. Under his leadership, the U.S. is once again a beacon of religious liberty — honoring the biblical values and heritage that built our nation."
