Hop in a canoe, and prepare to paddle over to Sullivan's Crossing.

The CW's hit drama series returns soon with a new season featuring a dramatic love triangle — and one major character missing from the campground action.

Sullivan's Crossing follows Boston neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan) as she returns to her hometown in Nova Scotia and reconnects with her estranged father Harry “Sully” Sullivan (Scott Patterson). As Maggie faces the legal troubles that upended her picture-perfect life, she unexpectedly falls for mysterious newcomer Cal Jones (Chad Michael Murray), forcing her to reconsider everything she thought she wanted.

“This is a journey for Maggie to figure out,” showrunner Roma Roth told SpoilerTV in July 2025. “It’s not one or the other. It’s like, how can you marry both sides of yourself? How do you satisfy both sides of yourself and not have to give one up for the other?”

Maggie’s journey has centered on balancing her career and love life for three seasons, with the most recent premiering on Canada’s CTV in April 2025 and on The CW in May 2025. Netflix picked up the first two seasons of Sullivan’s Crossing two months later, introducing a broader audience to the show based on the best-selling novel series by Robyn Carr.

The author — who also wrote the books behind Netflix’s other popular small-town drama, Virgin River — confirmed on Facebook in June 2025 that Sullivan’s Crossing had been renewed for a fourth season.

Yes, Sullivan’s Crossing is officially returning for a fourth season.

In June 2025, CTV confirmed the series had been renewed, and Carr shared the news on Facebook shortly after. Kohan shared her sentiments on the series in a May 2025 Instagram post.

“Two seasons dropping on Netflix, third season Canadian premiere last week, US next week and now a billboard at Yonge and Dundas Square,” she wrote in a caption alongside photos of her standing in front of a Sullivan’s Crossing billboard.

She continued, “Life is surreal and I just feel so so so lucky. What an absolute dream. Thank you to everyone who has been watching our show and sending your love. I feel it big time ❤️❤️❤️.”

In August 2025, Kohan gave an update on the new season: “I am beyond proud to be going back for Season 4 with such an amazing cast and crew."

”It’s been absolutely incredible to see the organic growth of our show throughout our first three seasons," the actress said in a statement, per Deadline. "We’ve had such a beautiful audience base in Canada and it’s been so exciting to see that expand in such a huge way internationally. Season 4 truly feels like our best yet and I can’t wait to share it with everyone!”

The outlet reported production on the new season kicked off in summer 2025.

Plot details for season 4 have yet to be revealed, but judging from the trailer released in March 2026, the new episodes will focus on the love triangle between Cal, Maggie and Maggie's secret husband, Liam (Marcus Rosner).

According to the season 4 synopsis, Maggie's "life at the Crossing is finally taking shape, having decided on a new direction for her career and a renewed commitment to Cal."

"That is, until Maggie’s ex-husband, Liam, arrives with a shocking revelation," the synopsis continued. "Which only upends Maggie’s life once again and causes Cal to question whether Maggie will ever truly be able to leave her past behind."

Roth has already hinted that the series won’t slow down.

In a July 2025 interview with Collider, the showrunner teased a "big shoe drop" in the season 3 finale that sets the stage for dramatic developments next season.

“There’s never a dull moment at Sullivan’s Crossing,” she said. “A romance drama series needs to have push and pull between your characters… we’re going to have a pretty big shoe drop at the end of the season that we’ll get to see play out in Season 4.”

Which cast members are returning?

Kohan, Murray are back for season 4, but one person missing will be Sully, played by Patterson, who left at the end of season 3.

“Season 3 of Sullivan's Crossing ended with Sully leaving for Ireland, beginning a new chapter in his life. Season 4 picks up the next day, with Sully still overseas,” Roth told PEOPLE. "The character remains an important part of the world with the potential to be included in future seasons should that align with the ongoing creative."

Patterson, best known for his iconic role as Luke Danes in Gilmore Girls, told Brit + Co in October 2023 that he considers his role in Sullivan’s Crossing one of the most important of his career.

“Roma Roth has created this platform where I'm able to express things in front of a camera that I have not been given the opportunity to do prior to this," he said.

He continued, “The way I see it, it's a career defining moment where I get to see what I can do in front of a camera in terms of how vulnerable I can portray a character.”

In addition to Kohan and Murray, series regulars include Tom Jackson as Frank Cranebear, Andrea Menard as Edna Cranebear and Lindura as Sydney Shandon and Reid Price as Rob Shandon.

Deadline reported cast members added for season 4 include Rosner, Fuad Ahmed, Jonathan Silverman, Colby Frost and Emerson MacNeil.

In an October 2023 interview with Parade, Murray defined the hit series as “a romance drama” — but noted that it was so much more.

“I will say that Sullivan’s Crossing is a place you go to heal,” the One Tree Hill alum said. “Sullivan’s Crossing is a place where you go to grow and to be honest with yourself.”

He continued, “What’s so beautiful about this show and why people, I believe, will just want more and more of it is because it’s slowing things down. We all work so hard that we don’t ever live. I think in this show there’s a lot more living than there is work.”

In a statement about season 4, Murray said, per Deadline, “We’re so happy returning to our Sullivan’s family and these wonderful characters."

"There’s always an excitement in being back on set and I’m proud of how far the show has come; not only here in Canada, but around the world," the actor exclaimed. "It’s amazing to be part of something that resonates with people in such a meaningful way."
