The Russo Brothers teased exactly what fans wanted to hear about Avengers: Doomsday’s unannounced heroes. The directors addressed fan speculation about Captain Marvel and Wanda Maximoff potentially joining the film’s massive ensemble cast.

The Russos respond to Captain Marvel and Wanda surprises in Avengers: Doomsday

The Russo Brothers addressed questions about potential Captain Marvel and Wanda Maximoff appearances in Avengers: Doomsday during an Entertainment Tonight interview at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. The directors offered a brief but telling response when asked about additional surprises beyond the confirmed cast.

ET’s Denny Directo asked the filmmakers about the chances of more surprises in the film. He specifically mentioned characters like Captain Marvel and Wanda joining the already stacked roster. Anthony Russo responded simply, “There are always more surprises.” Joe Russo then added, “And so, stick around as always for that end credit scene.”

The response leaves the door open for unannounced characters to appear in the crossover event. Marvel Studios has a long history of hiding major casting reveals until a film’s release. Both Captain Marvel and Wanda Maximoff remain significant figures within the broader MCU narrative.

Joe Russo also explained why the pair keeps details so tightly guarded ahead of release. He stated, “The reason why we stay so quiet is because when you have this experience in the movie theater, that’s the most fun version of it.” He further noted that the team shares enough to build excitement without spoiling anything for audiences.

The directors also reflected on the energy inside Hall H during the Doomsday presentation. Joe Russo called it “awesome” and praised the passionate crowd response. He said, “It’s just so great to be able to interact with the crowd. It’s our favorite part of the job for Anthony and I.” He described the panel experience as the closest thing to a Marvel live stage production. Avengers: Doomsday features a massive ensemble cast and arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026.
